Ode to the Dreamer
I’m at war with reality.
I just don’t want to wake.
The dream is so smooth, so sweet.
I’m addicted to my dreams,
Addicted to the fantasy,
Addicted to living in an alternate reality.
What’s the meaning of life itself?
Who cares? Just put it back on the shelf.
I’m a dreamer, a believer, a life-long retreater.
I don’t wrestle with the problems.
My dreams can dissolve ‘em.
I’m a hider, a seeker, reaching for a metaphysical peak, or…
Am I lost in the ocean of despair and defeat?
Not the outer but the inner,
Not a shouter but a singer,
I’m gentle and sensitive,
My idea is a winner.
But my voice can’t be heard if I’m singing underwater.
Got to bring myself back to the surface… Gotta wake up
To share what I have… Because the subconscious can’t make up
For the connection I crave.
Do I want to live out my days in a cave?
Life’s full of obstacles, predictable and not.
Life is a wondrous spectacle of chance.
Life teaches lessons, it can challenge and abandon,
It can wound and abuse and yet I cannot refuse
That the lessons it brings are somehow not random.
There’s an order to the chaos,
A meaning in the mess,
There’s something quite dreamy, I must confess.
It’s real, it’s painful, it’s dark and it’s bright.
Sometimes I feel dreadful but there’s always a light
Leading me back home to myself;
Just like my dreams, it is good for my health.
What’s more is it’s shared, an interactive game,
In which others can change me as I do the same.
And how do you know who you are if you won’t
Test your metal to see if you do or you don’t?
The dream hints at rules but it has none.
It hints at connection but it’s only to yourself.
It seems so silky smooth,
but it can be rough too;
So what are you going to choose?
I’m addicted to my dreams,
Addicted to the fantasy,
Addicted to living in an alternate reality.
Banality, neutrality,
A mentality of finality,
A fatality of your soul in actuality,
Your dream belongs in reality.
That’s morality.
Beginning right now is the only punctuality.
So get up and start to live.
Open your heart and let it break.
Learn to dream while you’re awake.
